SR-931 significantly reduced ALT and AST levels in rat plasma, increased plasma albumin content, increased liver protein content, SOD and GPx activities, reduced liver collagen, and ameliorated liver vacuolation and fibrosis to achieve liver protection.

Diabetes mellitus is a globally prevalent chronic metabolic disorder primarily caused by the dysfunction of the pancreas. This results in insufficient insulin secretion or the poor action of insulin on the surrounding muscles or tissues, leading to abnormal metabolism of nutrients as well as excessive glucose levels in the blood. Hyperglycemia can cause many life-threatening complications, such as diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, atherosclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease. Although many synthetic chemical drugs have been clinically developed, there are still no molecules that can completely cure diabetes. Moreover, the long-term use of synthetic antidiabetics can cause serious side effects. Therefore, the development of effective and side effect-free antidiabetic drugs is urgently required. Selenium is an essential trace element in the human body and as such, daily supplementation allows for the synthesis of at least 26 types of selenoproteins, which possess antioxidative effects and help regulate body metabolism. Many studies have shown that selenium can prevent or treat a variety of major diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and diabetes. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia Linn. var. abbreviata Seinge) has been used in folk medicine to treat diabetes. Phytochemicals contained in this plant such as peptides, momordicosides, momordin, and charantin, have been proven to have hypoglycemic effects. Using an animal model of STZ-induced hyperglycemia, we showed here that administration of a selenium-enriched bitter melon extract (SR-931) for 4 consecutive weeks had a positive effect on the stability of fasting blood glucose levels and glucose tolerance. These results indicate that SR-931 has strong therapeutic potential for regulating diabetes.

Background: SR-971, a functional food used for its anti-cancer, anti-aging, and antioxidanteffects, was assessed for its genotoxic potential in in vitro and in vivo genotoxicity assays. These included a bacterial reverse mutation assay (Ames test) and an in vivo rodent hematopoietic cell micronucleus assay.
Materials and methods: Negative and positive control cultures and animals were used in all assays. In the Ames test, varying concentrations of SR-971 were used to assess the mutagenicity in five strains of Salmonella typhimurium (TA1537, TA98, TA100, TA102, and TA1535) in the presence and absence of the S9 rat liver metabolic activation system. In the micronucleus assay, mice were randomly divided into five groups: low dose (0.5 g/kg bw), middle dose (1 g/kg bw), and high dose (1.67 g/kg bw) of SR-971, positive control (cyclophosphamide, 200 mg/kg bw), and negative control (ddH2O). Blood was collected at 24, 48, and 72 h post administration.
Results: SR-971 showed no mutagenic effects at the highest dose (5 mg/plate) in the presence or absence of metabolic enzymes in the Ames test. In the micronucleus assay, SR-971 had no effect on the number of micronuclei at any dose or sampling time.
Conclusion: Administration of SR-971 as a functional food does not pose a genotoxic risk to humans and target animal species.

Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide irrespective of a country’s economic status. Colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma are the most common types of malignant tumors. This study aimed to examine the anticancer activity of SR-971 for its clinical application in the treatment of human colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Materials and methods: Colorectal (SW480), breast (MCF-7), and hepatocellular (HepG2) cancer cell lines were treated with different concentrations of SR-971, and cell viability was determined by MTT assay. The effects of SR-971 on cancer cell migration and invasion were determined using transwell migration and transwell invasion assays.
Results: The results showed that treatment with SR-971 for 24 h inhibited SW480, MCF-7, and HepG2 cell proliferation, as evidenced by lower cell numbers and morphological changes. Transwell migration assays demonstrated that SR-971 inhibited the migration of SW480 cells. Furthermore, SR-971 significantly inhibited the invasive capacity of SW480 cells.
Conclusion: This study found that SR-971 exhibits anticancer properties and that SR-971 may serve as a potential therapeutic compound for cancer therapy.

Head, shoulder, and neck pain has become a common health problem around the world. It is a typical joint and muscle pain and is more likely to occur in middle-aged, elderly, and sedentary office workers among sub-healthy people. Nowadays, relief to stiff shoulders and stiff neck pain is commonly done by acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, hot compress, cupping, and chiropractic massage. The related research literature on the application of traditional Chinese chiropractic manipulation massage or essential oil therapy to improve shoulder and neck pain is relatively rare; therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the effects of chiropractic massage and essential oils on improving shoulder and neck pain. The study mainly discusses the effects of traditional Chinese chiropractic massage and essential oil therapies on the improvement of shoulder and neck pain. An experimental case study was conducted. The data were collected and used to compare the efficacy of traditional chiropractic manipulation massage versus essential oil therapy. Based on the data collected from individual case studies, to compare their differences before and after the measured values of heart rate variability (HRV), parasympathetic nerve, etc., also including the qualitative research of individual cases to obtain more detailed concepts, this way analysts can conclude whether essential oil massage and chiropractic manipulation are effective in relieving shoulder and neck pain.

Based on Stewart’s (1997) definition of human capital, this study explores the tendency of supervisor leadership behavior and human capital investment on the departure tendency of hairdressing practitioners and takes the managers, store managers, designers, and assistants of Kaohsiung Hairdressing Industry A and B cases as the research objects, and uses the qualitative research interview method to explore the impact of human capital investment and supervisor leadership behavior on the tendency to leave, and summarizes as the following:
A. Hairdressing leadership behavior is in the caring part, and the supervisor praises the employees after they complete the work, assist and pass down work skills. The specification part is that the supervisor will pay attention to the attendance of colleagues and will require them not to be late.
B. The main factors in the departure of hairdressing employees are the inability to adapt to the company policies and the poor communication with the management.

The global demand for shift workers is increasing year by year. Shift work is a typical work pattern in today’s society. Nursing shifts are the norm, such as irregular working hours, resulting in interruptions to work and rest, and the reason why nursing staff are out of order day and night; but in order to provide patients with continuous and improved quality of care, nursing staff must work in shifts. Due to irregular working hours, nursing staff often experience maladaptation at work, affecting personal health and quality of life. The literature review summarizes the facts that affect nurses’ quality of life, involving physical, psychological, interpersonal, and work environments. It recommends using diet, sleep, exercise and mental health strategies to improve their health. In addition, the government should implement a humane shift policy to improve the working environment and create a safe workplace. This research paper introduces the troubles of nurses participating in shift work in life, and hopes to help nurses adapt to shift life through appropriate strategies, so that every nurse can have a better, healthier quality and live a safe life; full of happiness and contentment .
